Dotonbori River Cruise Schedule: Every Pier, Every Timetable

The confusion starts because every one of these boats gets called "the Dotonbori river cruise" in casual conversation and in a lot of travel writing, when in fact each operator runs its own boat from its own dock. The Glico sign cruise boards at Minatomachi Pier (A), 2-6 Nishishinsaibashi, Chuo-ku, on the Nishishinsaibashi side of the canal, and runs the longest hours of any boat here, 10:00 to 22:00 daily.

The Tombori River Cruise, the plain walk-up boat run by Ipponmatsu Kaiun, and Pirates of Osaka, the pirate-themed boat run by Top River Cruise, both board at Tazaemonbashi Pier, the riverside entrance of the Don Quijote Dotonbori store, between Tazaemonbashi and Ebisubashi bridges. They share a dock but sell separate tickets from separate desks, so knowing you are at the right pier does not automatically mean you are at the right queue.

Wonder Cruise is the outlier: its pier sits at Dotonbori 1-1-6, riverside B1, directly in front of Grill Wonder, marked by a blue flag, on the Nipponbashi side of the canal a few hundred metres from the Don Quijote dock. It is the only one of the three canal boats with a proper waiting area and an onboard restroom, both worth knowing if you are travelling with kids or simply don't want to time a bathroom trip around a 20-minute ride.

Glico sign cruise (tour-1)

Runs 10:00 to 22:00 daily, the widest window of any Dotonbori boat, from Minatomachi Pier. Departure spacing follows the listing's own schedule rather than a fixed clock-face interval, so check the specific time slot on your booking.

Tombori River Cruise

Departs on the hour and the half hour, 11:00 to 21:00, from Tazaemonbashi Pier, about 20 minutes per run. 2026 published closure dates are 13, 24 and 25 July. Last verified: August 2026.

Pirates of Osaka (tour-3)

Day departures run 11:20 to 16:20 at 20 and 50 minutes past the hour, about 20 minutes each; night departures run 17:10 to 21:10 at 13 and 43 minutes past the hour, about 25 minutes each, from the same Tazaemonbashi Pier. Reservation required. Umbrellas are not allowed on board.

Wonder Cruise (tour-2)

Day departures at 16:10 and 16:40 only; night departures run 17:00 to 21:30 on the hour and the half hour, from its own pier in front of Grill Wonder. Pass holders and online-platform bookings board after 17:00 specifically, a rule the operator repeats on its own listing.

Arrival buffers differ by boat, and this is where the trip actually goes wrong for people who assume one rule covers all four. For the Glico sign cruise, check in at least 10 minutes before your slot; latecomers are simply not boarded, no exceptions noted on the listing. For Pirates of Osaka, arrive 15 minutes early to exchange your ticket at the Don Quijote desk before the boat, which typically pulls in 5 to 10 minutes ahead of its own departure time.

The Tombori River Cruise runs on a walk-up basis without a named minimum arrival window, but since departures leave every 30 minutes on the dot, turning up with at least 10 minutes in hand avoids missing a slot and waiting for the next. Wonder Cruise similarly loads on a rolling basis at its pier, and pass holders specifically should plan around the after-17:00 boarding rule rather than an earlier slot they may have hoped for.

One cancellation detail worth knowing ahead of time: the Glico sign cruise operator decides weather cancellations from the 17:00 forecast the day before, with a final call three hours before departure, so a marginal forecast the night before does not necessarily mean the boat is off, it means a decision lands a few hours ahead of your slot.

What does stop them is anything more serious: an official weather warning, genuinely high water on the canal, river maintenance works, or a local festival or event that closes the channel for the day. Operators reserve the right to suspend service without advance notice under any of these conditions, and the decision is made close to sailing time rather than announced days ahead, which is why checking the day's status shortly before you leave your hotel is worth the two minutes it takes.

If it names Tazaemonbashi or simply says Don Quijote riverside entrance, you're at the shared dock for the Tombori River Cruise and Pirates of Osaka, and it is worth double-checking which of the two desks you're actually queueing at. If it names Grill Wonder or a blue flag, you're at the Wonder Cruise pier on the Nipponbashi side.

None of these piers are more than a short walk from the others along the canal, but arriving at the wrong one with a boat about to leave is a genuinely bad way to start an evening in Dotonbori.
